Now, I've read it so much that I kind of like it. "Yoo-hoo!" Yeah, I'm not sure why it says that throughout Little Blue Truck's Springtime. (The flaps are large and pretty sturdy so I expect the book to hold up pretty well to all the attention he's giving it.) (Lots of spring time books assume the babies are always with their mother.) In our case he decided the Daddy pig was inside the barn and then he was happy. This kind of thing matters to little kids, so I'm happy that they made the story work for any parent figure. On the page where it talks about "Mother pig", my grandson wanted to know where the Daddy pig was. The rest of the time the story just says "horse" or "rabbit". My grandsons live with my son, their father, and the book only once refers to the parent animal as mother. In addition, each baby animal is referred to by its correct name, so kids get used to hearing those terms. Also, alongside the main story there are frogs who make crowns of the different colored flowers on each page and hitch a ride on the truck. The illustrations are beautiful, very colorful and full of little details like a mouse hiding in the barn.

I like that each book in the series is a little different - this one is an open-the-flap book. We've been reading it multiple times every day since then and he takes it to bed with him at night. I drew and then cut him out, and then my mother-in-law hand painted him! I also sewed all of the fabric banners and the table runners.My 3 year old grandson loves these books, so of course I had to buy him this one for Easter. We had a lot of fun handmade elements, such as the Little Blue Truck photo backdrop. The design was based off of the Springtime book because my son’s birthday is in March, just before the first day of Spring.
